![]() ![]() “This is all land we own right now,” explained McBride. The land being used for the park is already in control of the town and parts of it are already being utilized, but not coherently. As we see more development along the river to the east we’ll see more of this kind of park space opening up. The Riverfront Park is some of the open space that we have to bring us up to higher more accessible uses and I think we’re going to see a trend like that continue. If you look at development in Cochrane, we sort of formed Cochrane back to the river and we don’t have as much public space around the river as perhaps we liked to have. “This is something that myself and a couple other councillors ran on in the last municipal election saying we wanted to better highlight the Bow River in Cochrane. For Mayor Truper McBride, it’s follow through on part of his election platform in 2010. The town has allocated $2 million in Municipal Sustainability Initiatives funding to enhance use of 19.2 hectares of Bow River frontage to refine and expand upon existing recreational opportunities for the community. With the open spaces master plan now in place and provincial funding allocated, the Riverfront Park project is going ahead for the Town of Cochrane and is slated to be completed next year.
